Orphan Black Online Review

Ok, so this isn’t an Orphan Black Online Review.  Yeah, I know… that’s what I do here.  I not only review heady stuff, but I also tease it apart and argue with you about how it works.  And to be completely honest with you, I haven’t even seen it yet.  Well, not all of it yet anyway.  But I have just started watching Season 1 (there is only one season so far – 10 episodes in all) and am totally enamored with the conceit.

Woman is struggling to make ends meet, and make something out of herself stumbles across another woman who is her doppelganger.  The only thing is?  Just as she meets her, she commits suicide.  Come to find out there are other doppelgangers out there.   And each one has a hidden handler.  And sometimes they take on each other’s identities in order to get more information about the larger story unfolding around them unwittingly.

So far what I have seen has been an amazing acting job pulling off all of these different roles by Tatiana Maslany.  So well, that as she is playing the role of another clone that is impersonating a different clone, you can see the original there, and the ticks that make her up still shine through.  It is an amazingly bold move.  The show is put on by BBC America, filmed in ca-NAD-a.  And fantastic so far.  To that end, here is a great behind the scenes explanation of how Tatiana pulls off these scenes with two other hers also in the shot:

I have already started generating ideas and thoughts about the larger story that I am certain I will share in a deeper dive at another time.  But at this point, NO ONE that I know is talking about this show.  And I thought I would get it out there on your radar.  If you have seen it, feel free to tell us about it in the comments.  But do alert us to any spoilers well in advance if you would!  I’d be personally grateful for that.  Until next time.
