Bejeweled 2 is a tile-matching puzzle video game. The sequel to Bejeweled, it was developed and published by PopCap Games. In 2004, Bejeweled 2 Deluxe was released. They both add extra game modes and features to the game. Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, like all PopCap titles, is available on a "try before you buy" basis. Bejeweled 2 Deluxe was released for the Xbox 360 as a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade game on November 22, 2005.'

According to popcap.com:
Multiplier Gem - These gems are created when one swap results in 12 or more gems disappearing from the board. This can occur in a cascade or by using a Power Gem to detonate a neighboring Power Gem.
There is a link on the top called tips and tricks. It takes you to http://apps.facebook.com/bejeweledblitz/gameplay.php

If you can produce a multiplier gem in the couple seconds before the clock starts you are at x2 then first 10 seconds you could get x3; 20 seconds x4; 30 seconds x5; 40 seconds x 6; 50 seconds x7

However, getting the best multiplier doesn't guarantee a good score. So, at the same time you need to keep the speed bonus up.

I am not very good at actually pulling it off, but if you can look at the whole screen and make quick matches while planning out your big point scores you will do better.

I also like to click on the jewel that I am going to move next and hold down the button and put on the adjacent square. So, as soon as the cascade is done it will move it. This gives me time to find the next match, and do the same thing.

Hey Bryant,
great catch on finding the rules. Love to read them myself. Where did you find them?

Also, I recently found a hack that allows your play indefinitely. I can confirm that the game definitely only allows up to a 10x multiplier but no more. So that confirms what you were saying about the frequency. Great post.

It states in the game rules that if you clear 12 or more gems in one move you get a multiplier gem. This can only be done once every (approximately) 10 seconds. So, it is theoretically possible to get x7 or x8. My favorite way to get them is by connecting a power gem into a group of 4 so that you get a double explosion. As long as you are not near the border, you will get 12 every time.

Nicely done Sebi. I do think you are correct. After watching the bonuses more closely it seems to correspond with everything you spell out here.

After realizing that bonuses sort of corrupt the skill involved I started a group called "Bejewlers Against Multipliers" - or some such. The bonuses make it easy for really anyone to score astronomically high as long as they play often enough and get lucky once. So, I've come to respect a non-multiplied score of 40 or 50k way higher than a score of 200k even.

But I digress. Thanks for the clarification!

It drops multipliers for me when i perform a chain that involves an explosion. For example, it has worked for me nonstop as follows.

1. Capture shiny gem that explodes, and it immediately captures a set of 3.

2. Or, when i explode a gem, it blows up an adjacent shiny gem causing a chain explosion.

Number 1 also works in reverse. If you capture 3, and chains into an explosion capture.

I think you're right though about the speed bonus, because sometimes the patterns I explained do not work but I don't think my speed bonus was sufficient.

Oh, i also notice that it happens after a successful chain of 3 captures. Meaning, 3 cascade captures.
