Okay, this is old, but I did not much care for The Circle. In fact, other than Heartbreaking Work, which I loved at the time, I haven't cared for anything else from Eggers.

That aside, The Circle is a bit too on the point. What do I mean? Well, it feels like a navel-gazer pulling out the lint from their belly button.

It's not prescient, because it's what we're all thinking anyway. Imagine if it had come out in 2000 or so, before these social platforms became ubiquitous. Then maybe we could call it a memorable dystopia turned prophetic. But now (or even 10 years ago)? It's reactionary to the times. That could even work if it wasn't a carbon copied replica of reality, just taken to the extreme. It could learn to use a little subtlety, a little nuance, a little allegory instead of holding a mirror up to itself.

Have you watched the movie adaptation? I just watched, and though it wasn't one of my favorite movies, I was surprised by the terrible reviews. It made me wonder if people just didn't get it, or they were expecting X, and felt disappointed when they got Y instead, or what. So, of course, I wondered what you thought of it. Have you seen it, and if so, what's your take?

Stay Awesome,
