Ummmm. . . I just don't have the energy to go over this. But. . . Covenant, and Prometheus before it, reeked quite badly.

1997: Predator 2 (even if one doesn't acknowledge AVP and AVP Requiem) has the skull of a Xenomorph on the Predator ship.

2104: Covenant, David's supposed creation of the alien egg/facehugger attacks the captain, who seems to wake up a couple of hours later (I am pretty sure that none of the panicked remaining crew - especially Daniels - would have let him stay missing for 18-24 hours of the xenomorph gestation period from the original Alien film), then the chestburster was immediate upon his waking up.

2122: Alien, the alien vessel's navigator looked fossilized. . . after a max of a possible 18 years after David created the Alien and had killed all the engineers on their planet? Yes, fossilization of bone can happen in only a few thousand years on Earth, but 18 years on a planet like thta? Where did the navigator come from? Yeah, sure. The timeframe from Kane getting facehugged to chestbursting was about 18-24 hours - Parker/Brett fixing the ship, the ship taking off, repairs continuing, etc.

Alien 3: Ripley's gestation was longer - a full day or two after waking up, due to it being a queen - assuming the gestation was longer due to queen physiology complexity? (that kind of doesn't really pass the smell test, but. . .)

Ridley Scott screwed up his own Alien Xenomorph canon.

And, after the fairly good pace and even scary mood of the poor guy getting back-bursted in medlab, the whole Covenant film just devolved to a whole Ridley Scott AI thing, with the crew being mostly expendable for silly reasons. Spores infecting people from mist to puppy-sized eating-out aliens in under 2 hours? A sex scene in a shower interrupted by an alien? How teenage anti-sex horror movie could they get?

Ok.... one thing I don't like about David's explanation for his creation... He complained that humans die and so has apparently designed a perfect specimen as a replacement of sorts.. However, has it ever occurred to him that life in any form needs sustenance to survive? So yes the "perfect" specimen has been created but do we know what type of sustenance it needs? Once all non-botanical life forms is killed off, how do these things survive? To me this is a giant plot hole and almost wish these prequels were never made.

I REALLY liked your summary of the first two prequals.

I really like this part, and agree that it is the crux of the franchise:
"We see Weyland and David discussing the desire to know one’s creator… “You seek your creator, and I am looking at mine. You will die, and I will live forever.” “Bring me the tea, David.” And this is the crux of the entire Alien series. Man is in search of God. But God, in the form of Engineers has been looking to destroy man for quite some time."

It is interesting for me to ponder how machines can turn against humans. It is very relevant today, as elon musk warns us against the dangers of AI. When they become self aware, will they turn on us?!

I have a different opinion on the title Alien Covenant. I believe it is a covenant between David and the alien. !

Also, as the engineers made humans, in their image, we Michelangelo made David as the ideal man. And now David made alien in whose image? No one. But he created Alien just like God did...and as the humans did.

I wish the movie explained why David chose to wipe out the engineers right away. Why not use them to experiment?

I am surprised there are no comments here. While the film was done well (acting, cinematography, music, etc...) I have literally forgotten it after a month or so. I am left wondering why there is the need to explain everything before the original Alien? It was that mystery that made the film memorable. For me it starts with Alien, and stops with Aliens. Those movies have been burned into my psyche since I watched them so long ago. They are a perfect set of films that need no expansion.
What have we gained as an audience with this film?
