I don't know how old this thread is but I wanted, no needed to say to the author of this post that first you write very well. Your love of cinema shows. But that's not what got to me. I wish I could come buy you that beer one day because I could feel your light through your words. Eloquently combining personal shortcomings and those of the place you live with a quite but powerful message of how to do better. And when a commenter had different beliefs, your response proved to me that you truly are one of those rare beautiful souls. I don't ever write on these things and I'm not real confident that it will come across the way I've meant it to but felt compelled to do it. I wish there were more people like you in the world. Your very right though. It all starts with us thinking and looking out for someone or something other than ourselves.

It isn't the cop who takes Kee and the baby. He's put out of action by the Fugee woman who was helping them. It's Luke and the Fishes who take the baby. This was a big thing for you to miss, because the movie shows that not just the government dictatorship (the cop) is immune to the miraculous effect of the baby, but also the revolutionary activists. Political ideology of whatever stripe is not going to save the world.

That is fair @keegan, doing the right thing, the moral thing, it takes sacrifice in a world today that cares most about personal gain. (I am dying to throw politics in here, but note, that I am not!!) Regardless of your spiritual affiliation, There is something compelling about those that put others first. That make society a better place to live - heck, helps the society survive.

It is a pretty great movie. I think it is a similar message and story to Mother! But way more compelling and more clearly stated. Sure they are different. But they are angling at the same thing. This was so good though. Thanks for resurrecting this post guys (see what I did there?!? Hahaha)

This movie is a cinematic masterpiece. I am not a man of Christ however the message here still applys. How far are we willing to go to achieve our agendas? Can the very thing that destroys us save us. What I love about this movie is that it send the message that you always have a choice to do good. Even the smallest action has an impact on those around you. This was a awesome movie and a great article. I love your passion for film.
