Still entirely open-ended dilemma at conclusion of film.
yes, she's pregnant, even tried to tell rape-dude a couple times but failed.
SO...NOW what to do? Consider the Victorian times.
NO, she can't try to pretend it's former husband's baby given the time lapse AND he's gone for months prior to his death.

No doubt she'd about, she's a sociopath after all, but HOW to abort back then? Assume such risk to try to manage herself?
I dunno, puzzling dilemma she's left in & no easy fix imaginable. yes, she's a murderous nut-job, so would imagine she has no use or interest in any baby, just that one is IN her & she looks at least 3-4 months along so others WILL notice too (in those awful tight corsets).

I knew Catherine was nasty when she got the hots for a man that was torturing her servant who was stripped naked and being poked with a stick while suspended in air. Sometimes I enjoyed her defiance, but mostly I knew she would have to continue to kill and destroy to get what she wanted and if Sebastian hadn't ratted her out, I'm sure another obstacle would have come for her chop up. She never loved him, she was a literal psychopath, she loved the sex.

Thanks Heidi, my apologies for the proverbial grammatical wire-crossing. I've fixed it. It really is appreciated it. I spend way too many hours playing out on this site, but simultaneously, I never spend enough here!

Uh... in reference to Olivia's comment up there ^^^ - Anna was not "a goody two-shoes." She was a slave. She literally had to remain subservient at all times in order to stay alive. Just pointing that out.

I think the part with Anna being weighed on the pig scale (along with various other acts of racial humiliation perpetrated against Anna, like being made to crawl on the floor for something Catherine did) was there to illustrate Catherine's callousness from the beginning, and to show the stark differences between being a white women and being a black women (back then, but also in a way that still resonates today). Catherine cares so little about Anna that she actually finds the man perpetrating violence and humiliation against her to be overwhelmingly attractive. And Catherine is only able to get away with her crimes because she is not only a woman, but a white woman. Anna knew that even if she were to talk and defend herself, it wouldn't make any difference. Anna was considered less than human by everyone around her; even Catherine, who sadly should have been her ally. But rather than see their shared oppression for what it was, Catherine chose to sadistically and selfishly wield what little power she had over Anna. I think it speaks to the lack of intersectionality in many white women's practice of feminism.
