I loved this movie so so much!
But I am NOT a christian, quite on the contrary - I hate what christianity did to MY religion, all the murder and violence and stealing our holidays and stuff...
Maybe that's why I love this movie so dearly...
It's all about the false christian morals and what they did to our Mother Gaia...

This very film really is a beautiful film, and it really makes me wonder why it was labelled as the worst film Lawrence ever acted in? I mean i do have my answer but personally this film is brilliant. Looking introspective about this film, after getting to read certain books with non related subjects, I realised that this whole film is very dantesque -which happens for me to own Dante`s Divina Comedia- and suddenly reading this article made me realise how this whole film is like the whole walk thru Inferno to the Heaven searching for Beatrice. And given to the fact that the book was written during the Renaissance era, it`s impossible not to make connection with the art world and literally envision this whole films exposure as a very ample painting of Botticelli, with hidden messages based on a codex via Dan Brown. And because of this very reason this is a brilliant film. Because, as any writer on art world would say: art is what the viewer makes of it, the artists just gives a context.

In reply to <a href="https://taylorholmes.com/2017/09/14/mother-by-aronofsky-explained-discussed-debated/#comment-917002">Thia</a>.

Hey Thia,
No idea how I missed this fantastic comment. My apologies. I don’t disagree at all. Definitely looks like a definitive treatise against the idea of a savior, a definitive exposition against the need for salvation. And even if it were true it calls out the lack of difference that it has made in the world today. Personally I can say that it has made all the difference in the world, and suddenly I find my life worth living. Suddenly I find myself in Haiti trying to adopt two boys out of extreme poverty and suddenly life has all kinds of meaning. And all because of a baby born in a manger.

My two cents.

It's commentary *against* Christianity. The writer posits to us that if God really did what is claimed Biblically, creating Earth great, sending his Son because he loves mankind so much, and then scrapping it all for a new heaven and Earth, then is He really worthy of our worship? The writer submits that this God is either woefully naive, or careless with His creation... thus religious people should question whether or not this makes sense. (Sent from a believer, just wanted you point this out from the director's point of view). Much like Black Swan, this director has some criticism he serves up against his own viewers.
