Yes, you are correct. But for me, the joy of the books was in the experience, the other worldliness of the encounter. What is this world that we are encountering. What happened to the earth that caused us to need to explore it all over again? House of Leaves didn't answer anything to my satisfaction, and yet it is still one of my favorite books of all time. But yeah, one of the risks of the books was that VanderMeer dug himself a debt he couldn't ever pay off. But I had sort of assumed that from the beginning. Which, is a great point you are making. I'm ok with that in a book. But will I be ok with that in a movie!??! Hrm.

Spoiler Alert...

I have to admit that while I was deeply intrigued by the books, I felt as though not enough was explained in the end. And while I'm sometimes okay with multiple interpretations, it really felt as though they set up this amazingly fascinating world...and then didn't really give us enough to come to a satisfying conclusion.

Fair warning, it's been a year or two since I read the books, so I don't remember my particular complaints. Just a general feeling of, "That's it?" when I got to the end. I think I was hoping for a conclusion that gave more twists, but twists that made sense and helped lead to a satisfying conclusion. And I don't remember feeling as though that had been achieved.

I'm rambling. Anyway, I'll probably still see the movies.

I had a friend once tell me he wasn’t reading the Lord of the Rings because he didn’t want to ruin the movies that were soon coming out. Um, no. And um no here too. The books are so much goodness.

I don’t think I dropped any spoilers? But heck ya this will be a great movie. Just hope that make it into 3 distinct movies. And that they don’t pull a gunslinger on us... gah!

I’m excited too.
