Really liked the movie. I can’t believe Quinn wrote this screenplay at 15. I take that back, of course I can, she’s young and her spirit hasn’t been beaten down by the world yet. She has such insight for such a young woman, way beyond her years. It’s extremely nuanced and walks many delicate lines between being a victim and victimizing others as a result of your own grief and abuse. I would like to know the back story behind Abigail’s stay at the psychiatric hospital and if that played into her constant need to to reinvent and sexualize herself for her teacher’s affection. I’m extremely sensitive to the subject matter and at times it was difficult to watch, but I’m glad I did. I also felt that same way about The Tale starring Laura Dern. It cuts so (painfully) deep into the subject matter of adolescent abuse and consent. What can you consent to as an adolescent and why would an adult rely on an adolescent’s consent to absolve themselves of predatory behavior? If you want a real mind bender (of a different kind) you must watch this film. I would also share it with any female members in my family. Thanks again for a great movie suggestion.
