Hahahah...
Well, I'm glad you were confused enough to wander over to this edge of the internet in order to say hello, as you were trying to figure it all out! Brilliant little film. Loved every minute of it, even after all these years.

After she displayed somebody else’s photos without permission, she got paranoid at his threat. She’s messing with so many things that are morally questionable any one of them will lead her mind to imagine her own comeuppance.
Photo theft, Voyeur, sleeping with a married man, lying to the police. Breaking and entering. Etc.

Definitely a tale of two minds...or multiple personality disorder brought about by the traumatic death of her parents and the impending guilt. Lots of hints throughout...even the title. She is “S” from the get go...she beat up the reporter. Another possible explanation is her dealer lied from the beginning and set the whole decline into motion perhaps because Arthur was going to sue her. He shot Arthur and drove her mad in order to avoid a lawsuit. Explains his text at the end but not all the other bizarre clues. I really feel it is about split personality especially with the visual clue of ‘you are her’ at the end...and the similarity in photographs b/n ‘S’ and Miranda. Plus the oversized photograph in Miranda’s apartment that seems to have a woman’s head on a male body. In the end, I think this was a voyeuristic look into the mind gone mad. Did anyone else notice that the second apartment was 3D. As in three dimensional? Perhaps there is a third personality??? I would have to watch it again but can’t imagine devoting two more hours to such an odd movie. Good actors but way off beat storyline. Sad to think it was Shepherd’s last movie.

Very intriguing yet my patience isn't rewarded. So many questions unanswered. One anchoring fact is that the same woman in red sweater is behind the apartment window in the beginning and the very end. Is she Miranda? Is this a loop? The fact that the front door lock is changed causes her to take the cue to "disappear".

Miranda is definitely mentally sick. Many repeats, echoes, even different iteration of the attack... These could be the fragments of her imagination streamed into a story. The title of the movie is "Never Here". The title of her last project is "You Were Never Here". The neon sign in her bedroom says "You Are Here". Miranda's mind is never here. Or, is Miranda a ghost, where she is not physically here?

I really liked the fact that the movie is making viewers to research for the signs and have their theories. I think the movie's all about contradictions between Miranda's personalities.Like other's i feel she is chasing herself and creating number 5 in her mind.she is obsessed about everything after her parents dead cause she blames herself......she said she is disappearing...and there must be a reason her dog changed like that...well i think she is the one,but who really knows.

Just watched this movie and loved it! My family groans and leaves the room when I find a mind bender like never here. They can all watch die hard again in the other room. Anyway, I’m going not for #3 even if it was the intended lecture from the creator. Art takes on a life of it’s own. Lots of references to the red neon sign changing to your are here ... you are her’ lots of meta messages between male and female. There is a definite directional intent toward multiple personalities. Especially when the Miranda personality thinks she is disappearing. Is she really dangerous? To herself she is. Will she go to the airport or is it just Miranda that goes leaving opportunities for other personalities to take over her lovely life. The dog knows.

I have a theory. This emotionally fragile artist happily invaded a man's privacy by splashing his life out on an art gallery's walls, but when she begins stalking S, she learns firsthand how invasion of privacy feels for her. Should we think about the unintended results of invading other people's privacy?
