Anyway, although the film posits a rather sympathetic motive for a notorious murderess, the gruesome nature of the actual killings and the cold-bloodedness in the planning beforehand on the other hand, help tip the sympathy balance back to the victims’ favour, especially the stepmother, IMHO. I mean, why had the stepmother really done to deserve “40 whacks”?
