If you add more than one link, I have to approve it. But I don't see any pending approvals currently awaiting my feedback. Not sure why the website addition would be a problem. Fascinating. Maybe??

I see this comment just fine! Just saying. The site did have problems last week, for a solid 24 hours maybe they were eaten then? Dunno.

Keep plugging. And heck - if you want to send me copies of your comments when you post? I'll make sure they are posted. If they are, no foul. If they aren't, I'll add them for you.

I didn't quite get the hype on this one, including your review here. Maybe I'm just jaded? I'm not a horror afficionado by any means, but I've seen my fair share. Blood, guts, jump scares I don't appreciate overly much. I prefer atmosphere, existential or unexplainable horrors, and this one did that pretty well.

I think it's the whole "cult" thing, which has been done so much that nothing that happened jarred me. Oh, I looked away, because no need to see some of the gruesomeness, but I expected it. I expected a horrific ending. I'm not even surprised Pugh made it out alive, because that's not an uncommon trope either.

I can appreciate the aesthetic of this movie, and how it was all sunshine and smiles instead of dark and gloom, but at this point, it almost seems more a gimmick than anything else. It's all anyone talks about. "Oh, it's so scary because it's bright out! I didn't expect anything bad to happen!" Really? Did you walk into the movie blind? Pick it at random?

Anyway, I'm a little concerned your site is eating more of my comments, because two more aren't showing yet. Sigh. Yet here I plug on.

I thought that this movie was just gory for shock but not very scary. I believe all those so called friends of hers got what they deserved especially her boyfriend. He told her not to worry about her sister who always is being a drama queen and then her sister kills her family and herself? Then her boyfriend cheats on her? Yeah he sucked. I am glad she smiled at the end. She needed people who actually cared to grieve with her. She has now found her people even though they are completely twisted.

well my two cents.
thanks for the theories... I helped somehow. Maybe won´t watch it again and yes, will watch Hereditary for shure.
Don´t know what to feel about the movie... The eeriness of the place, the sunshine, the pale looks, the "I give a fuck" look on those millenials that finally get sacrificed one by one, the annoying music and the specially creepy chants of those Hagra women.... And of course the lack of subtitles all over the place (what the heck are they talking in that Swedish slang?). Ari did well making you losing grip from reality, one step on the grass by step. You are slowly being cooked like the frog in cool, then warm, then hot water... It´s too late. You lose it.
By displacing the viewer (and the millenials who don´t have a slightest idea of what´s going on) Ari achieves that subtle horror that goes up and up and ends in the paroxistic yellow piramid on fire.
Somehow I cannot stop to watch. Somehow I feel the movie didn´t end there. The worst feeling is just to imagine what´s behind that final smile; a pyschology student that losted everything and got... a family?

No one mentioned the cross in the middle of the field. The pole. It´s a cross. And the role of the nature (did you see how it reacted when Dani seats on the "green" throne?).
Again.. all those mysteries that won´t be answered also add to that displacement.
Regards, M.

For some reason the newest comments I have in my email are not showing up here yet but this is in regard to our side conversation. Sorry, we are all over the board talking about other movies! Into the Void, also by Gaspar Noe is disturbing in its own way but Irreversible is disturbing on a number of fronts. I suggest anyone prone to any kind of seizures take care when watching either of these films. Lars Von Trier whom I also mentioned, makes some very provocative cinema but beware there is extreme violence and extreme sexual scenes in some of his films and some with both combined together so not fit for family film night. In fact, at numerous screenings of his, many have walked out which I think he enjoys in some kind of sick way.
