I watched this last night as it had been on my Hulu watchlist. Wow, this film is really hard to get through in the beginning with the rape and then brutality of a baby. I was screaming “NO!” out loud while watching it! But I too, was ignorant of this part of history in Tasmania. I had a vague idea that something bad happened to the Aboriginal people, but this was horrific. And surely I agree the US is in no position to judge. The things you mentioned and the caging of our own Japanese citizens comes to mind during WW2 and now we cage little children. But wow, still a tough film to watch until the end! Go Billy! I loved the end scene with both of them on the beach watching the sun come up on a new day. I loved how Clare and Billy’s relationship changed when they realized they both had gone through unspeakable horror at the hands of the British. I always wondered what that old U2 song was about and now I know it had to do with the war.
