The only thing I wondered about was if she just was trying to put an end to the case that had otherwise gone cold by saying the money was in circulation therefore instigating all the events that lead up to the end or rather the beginning of the film. It seems she was intent on going out with a bang or at least getting some kind of retribution for her lover before she went.

I watched this last night and thought they did that reveal seamlessly. I had no idea until it happened. All in all a solid flick. I also don’t understand why they made NK look so bad as opposed to the aging of the other characters, though. I get they want to convey the years have been hard but the prosthetics were a bit too much. I mean there are some really terrible movies out there that manage to make money so I don’t see why this one was hated so much.

Or maybe she was still thinking of getting away with murder at that point in time, because by showing up at her own crime scene, she would be able to receive first hand info from the detectives present, whether they would have any inkling of her involvement at all. Not to mention by being there, and be seen to be probing around the dead body for a bit, she would then have a perfect excuse for having left what little evidence she might have inadvertently left first time around.

It was only later when she got back to her car that the extent of her injuries were revealed. And having realized that she most likely would die from said injuries, she then made up her mind to come clean by handing the envelope to her partner. That's the envelope that contains the addresses of her storage facility (the one with the bag of dyed money in it) and Petra's whereabouts.

I watched again just to make sure the above scenario works too, chronologically speaking at least, ha. Don't you just love twist endings that made you go back and watch the movie unfold again, but with a new perspective the second time around?

There was actually a bit of a giveaway early on that things were not quite what they seemed, and that's Nicole Kidman's makeup. I remember Ms Kidman looked to me like a walking dead first time she appeared on screen, but she would then "mysteriously" look far better only a few more minutes in, especially around the time when she was talking to her former FBI handler at the latter's office. I remember putting that down to inconsistent makeup, silly me!

Love Phil Hay's screenplay work. Only hope that he and his wife can survive the box-office splashdown of this one.

Fixed the link - should bounce you to the file now. I think.

Now, as to the bank - that is a good question. I assumed she was just re-taking it in. Remembering what happened there. The impact of it, and Chris' death? Oh, and to throw off the viewers as well.

Maybe?

Forgot to mention that your Timeline pic is not clickable, but still just about viewable as it is.

Forgot to mention one plot point that's been bugging me as well, which is why does Erin go back to the Silas' crime scene like she's seeing it for the first time (other than to throw first time viewers off, that is, ha)?

So glad you like it, as I was a bit apprehensive that you might find the reveal of the nonlinear narrative gimmicky. Don't know about you, but the reveal caught me totally unawares, because the movie would still have worked without the narrative twist, I think. Only difference with the back-to-front narrative is that so now we know that present-day Erin has gone rogue and had revenge on her mind from the very beginning, and not from when she kidnapped Petra and went incommunicado thereon. But kudos to the script for taking the nonlinear route in any case, especially when I least expected to find a twist in the tail, so to speak.
