Taylor. Excellent recap of the film and the situation happening in Colombia. I saw a screening of this film with the director randomly, because I live in NYC and that film seemed interesting. I was similarly blown away by the cinematography. The film left me haunted and of course since I saw it alone had no one to discuss. I just came across it on streaming to be able to relive the brilliance. The acting is insane. They are in the real jungle!!! Thank you for this shared forum.

- Doctora broke the chain by hammering it with a stone. I can't believe you didn't notice that, she goes at it pretty hard.

- Lady's boots are entirely different to the ones Doctora took and are very clearly shot to show they have intact toes.

I definitely missed the boots. I thought the doctor was still loose in the woods but you could be right! I’ll have to rewatch!

I thought we see Lady wearing Doctora's boots with the toes cut off before she finds the children. I take this to mean Doctora was caught and killed. I'm going to watch again. I feel so much time was spent on her cutting off those boot toes, it was meant to stay in our memory for the reveal. This would also account for the vague news reports and no final stamp that she was found alive.

I could be way off, this just my personal opinion...
The little kids are the new rebels ( Story repeats)
   Bigfoot drounds.
Rambo is shot in the head n thrown off the helicopter.
The rest continued living the life that they have.

Did you read the ending as the Doctor still being loose in the forest? I haven’t had a chance to rewatch and see if I missed something.

Hey Taylor, been crushing a lot of your recommendations recently. Starfish, Blue Ruin, and now MONOS(awesome breakdowns and love the archive, could not be more up my alley genre wise).

Loved all three and just finished MONOS, thus coming back here... I am surprised you didn't make mention how the ending feels a bit abrupt. We do not get much closure on the endings for Bigfoot, Boom, and Lady (accompanied by a murky one for Doctora). Did you feel this way as well or not such much?
I do agree how great so many aspects of the movie were, but I did feel like they could have used just a small bit of the run time more efficiently. If so, like you said, this movie would be an all-time great... The mushroom experience/scene just felt a little empty to me personally, aside from some of the cool shots of flora & fauna.
And I almost don't want to point it out, being such a morbid thought - but I am a bit surprised, and thought at one point they might have been foreshadowing the inevitable sexual exploitation of Doctora. Particularly once they moved to the forest.

Anyhow, thanks so much for the site. Really the only like movie blog I consult. Like I said, just a strike down the middle for my favorite genre/type of flick.

I rented this a few days ago and it was a really great film. I thought toward the end they said that the Doctor had been spotted in the jungle but not rescued, hence why the helicopter was there to pick up Rambo but maybe I missed something? The last scene was Rambo getting rescued and I thought she was still out there but I have to see it again to be sure. So the ending was up in the air as to whether or not Rambo deserved being rescued because they didn’t know he was part of the soldier clan. Also, I’m not sure if the Monos were robbing people or attacking either rescuers or maybe even their own people since they went rogue? They seemed to be waiting for someone with the dark war paint. Plus it’s unlikely people would be driving around the jungle without a good reason.
