Such a disappointing movie. Such a frustrating, boring-yes, I said it-boring movie.

I love a good thought provoking movie. Shane Caruth is my favorite. Followed by my latest discover Benson & Moorhead.

Myth? The Proteus/Prometheus thing was so heavy handed. It was like film school student beating me over the head with his pretentious crap. The cinematography was beautiful. The texture was amazing. And that impressed me for all of the first 15 minutes until I began to get the sinking suspicion that I knew where the movie was going. Turns out I was right I was right and I would love to have the time back.

The "Is it real or are they going crazy" trope is as overdone and cliched as Superhero and Buddy Cop movies. Its nothing but a cheap cop out for people who can't write a story with a working plot and an ending. This movie was a textbook case of The Emperor's New Clothes. Textbook.

No comments yet here either? Wow. I watched this film last night and I’m still unsure if Ephraim/Thomas really did see mermaids and octopi or if he truly went out of his mind. Hard to tell if Wake was trying to make him go crazy for entertainment purposes and I’m stuck on when he said weeks had passed when the other Thomas only thought it was a day. It’s obvious neither of these men can be trusted to tell the truth about anything so Wake could have just been filling his head with crazy sea tales and since they devolved into drinking turpentine, I’m sure the lines between reality and delusion were more than blurred. But I agree this movie is not about a Lighthouse and taking it at face value minimizes the theme which I think you covered well with the info about the gods. This film is definitely a lot to unpack!
