Hey there @David
I just laughed out loud. You wrote so many words before saying anything at all… and I was bearing down on the end of your comment still completely lost as to what I thought you were going to actually say… and when I slammed into the last four words I laughed loudly. Not just out loud. But loudly. Well done sir. Definitely could not agree with your 4 word assessment more.

I’d totally forgotten about this movie. Such a good one.

Just finished watching the movie on Amazon (with English dubbing and subtitles that often didn't match the monologue). I have one observation that constantly played my head throughout the film: This movie is Werner Herzog's wet dream.

Did you ever think that she is in a sanitarium? That the man killing her animals is her psychiatrist? Because they are all a figment of her imagination? She has created a reality that she does not want disturbed. She is the white crow and she does not belong with the black crows. She kills her psychiatrist (figuratively) as evidence that she does not want her created world destroyed. Shall I go on or do you still this movie is about nothing. It is a metaphor!!

It’s magical realism at its finest. Just like there is no actual reason given for Gregor turning into a giant bug in Kafka’s Die Verwandlung.

You can spend the rest of eternity trying to extract meaning. Not everyone even agrees on who undergoes the metamorphosis in the title.

You need to read the book also. Has more details of course. Some remembrances of former life, husband, children. Audiobook format is good since it’s just her talking. Frustrating and disturbing. But that’s how it would be for her. No answers. Just questions.

It has been several years since I saw this, but I'm pretty sure this is a feminist movie for women past menopause. I think the wall was supposed to represent society and its rules. The dog is represents a husband (I admit I shed a few tears when the dog died and she talked about hearing his footsteps behind her for the rest of her life.) The pregnant animals are like children, or the next generation that she helps to guide. And the bird at the end is her future, and she plans to embrace it and see where it takes her.

That's all I really remember about this film, except that it was rather boring. I'm not really a feminist but maybe I'll get it better when I'm older?

OLAF! THANKS SO MUCH!!
I will definitely go back through and fix this mess. Sorry if I offended at all. Definitely wasn't my intention.

Also, Olaf, one small tip. The title of my name is not Thomas. Although, I do like the name Thomas even better than my own. Well, minus the Doubting Thomas thing. My name is actually Taylor! hahaha. But no worries. We both just learned something!!

Thanks again Olaf... changing the post currently.

Dear Thomas,
love your website but just one short hint: The german title of the movie is DIE WAND like The Wall and not DIE WALD. Wald is the german word for forest.

Cheers and keep on with your fantastic website.
Take care, Olaf
