I was also confused by “Do you feel different after what we did?”. I actually thought they were the ones that hurt Jane. She heard people in her house and then after I heard them make that comment, I kinda assumed they were the ones that hurt Jane. ‍♀️

The Brother and Sis-in-Law are the ones that went over to Jane’s house and they think they have killed Jane. Because the night before when they talk about it being Jane’s fault and ‘you know what we have to do’… and then also the scene before whatever happens to Jane is clearly someone walking into her little lab area and she even asks them is this the end.

Yes, I think the writer of this review must've missed that line, because their inference that that couple killed their daughter is pretty clearly incorrect. (I mean, their affect just doesn't make sense in that scenario.) I found this article because I was specifically searching for an answer to the question of what it was they did, but it doesn't seem to be answered here, or in the film, or anywhere else. And I have no guesses.

So I watched this last night and boy did it leave me feeling depressed! But I think that yes, it was about anxiety and obsession over our own mortality. I get panic attacks and they are beyond awful. The first time I had a bad one I ended up in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. I was so embarrassed when I found out I wasn’t but that’s due to the stigma of all ailments mental in nature. I have to say that every time she went over to the record player I was praying for her not to fire up the requiem again. I used to enjoy that Mozart piece but I don’t think I ever will again after watching this film.

I was confused by the “Do you feel different after what we did?” I, too, thought they had killed their daughter, but then one of them asks whether they should wake her and the other says no. You can’t wake a dead person. Maybe they drugged her but not fatally—to calm her? Or maybe I misunderstood the dialog.

As for the tanner, I’m not sure he’s going to die. Amy doesn’t tell him she’s going to die tomorrow, and he never looks at her. That seems significant.
