And I remember I almost didn’t watch it just from reading the premise but it’s so much deeper than any 2 line blurb could ever make it. First off, the painting. Bosch was quite the character. Man, I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in that man’s head for a minute or 2 because beyond that, I don’t think I’d be able to take it. All of his work is so deep and so very dark. Just reading a biography of him recently his work is described as portraying all the sins and follies of mankind. If you know that then you will understand why the painting is such an important plot point. So when they introduce the painting as part of the plot you just know this film is going to be dripping with meaning. Ray is suffering for his sins. I mean, just reading your review I’m reminded of the fact that so much happens in this film and even what’s implied that’s happened before they arrive is deep and very important as the movie plays out. So we have a film that’s deep, dark, intense and also a comedy. Not many could pull this off successfully but this film does it perfectly. Now I want to watch it again and I rarely ever rewatch anything.
