I wondered at the end if he didn’t die as well in the fire. That to me would be just as creepy because it would validate that he could see and interact with his brother. Then they are all creepy ghost happy family again sans dad. But your explanation is probably more likely. And where the heck is the father? He’s literally been written out of everything. Elias mentions him once in the beginning of the film comparing him to the so called mother and then he’s not talked about again. Plus he’s removed from all the photos. So, is he dead in the accident or is he responsible for the accident? It’s just not clear. Real mother or not, she’s a terrible mother. She’s gone and had cosmetic surgery when she’s well aware her child is already deranged from the loss of his brother and then she just pisses him off even more by refusing to acknowledge the dead brother. So she’s lacking in all the ways a mother should act. Laying around in bed all day while her already mentally deranged child is off in his own world and being held hostage at the place his brother died. So, yeah I wasn’t overly sympathetic to her. The final nail in the coffin is when Elias asks her what Lukas’ favorite song is and she has no clue because she’s obsessed with herself. This movie was very disturbing. The scenery, the singing, everything.
