I’m with you on home schooling which is why I signed my son up for the hybrid model at his school instead of fully remote this year. When he was home since March, I felt like he was missing out on so much. I think to be somewhat well adjusted you need the experiences that you get going to school such as the in person socialization. I know a lot of families have chosen to home school recently with everything going on and unless I had no other choice I would not do it. This movie is about that albeit in a very extreme and shocking way but I get what he’s trying to say here.

Yeah, I mean totally. The germ of the idea is interesting. The indictment against families that do not allow their children to think critically - or at all, is fantastic. I'm 100% for that. This movie is so far off the deep end of normal experience though that it because really shocking. I mean, incest? heh. Yeah, it's a bit much. A little bit down the path of shocking for shock sake. For me, he made his point with the Salt/Telephone detail. There are parents who have literally taught their children made up languages and have gone to jail for it. It's literally unconscionable mind control. So yes, Yorgos is hitting on something great here. But the path he is taking to make it, makes me have to rethink recommending the film in order to get to the point he's making.

But yeah! I do believe that many homeschoolers border on this kind of social abuse, maybe unintentionally. Can you homeschool and avoid this pitfall, 100%. Totally. But there are those families that literally do it to protect their kids from the world. Well, you know what honey, that's about to backfire. Dramatically.

But wow. That movie. Dunno.

If you think back to when you were a child and all of your ideas were pretty much formed by your family before you got out into the big bad world on your own, then this film makes some kind of sense I guess? I think you liked this film or at least you didn’t hate it because it made you think about what your life would be like if you never got those outside experiences and your only point of view was from inside your own house. I often think I didn’t like a film but then I find myself thinking about it for days after and then I realize I sort of enjoyed it. Granted this one is a bit extreme as most families aren’t this insane (maybe?) but think about how different you’d perceive the world if you never got to experience it on your own. Ok, I’m babbling again. I am about to watch another of his films today and I’m sure it will be equally disturbing in nature. I loved The Lobster and The Favourite. I didn’t love The Killing of a Sacred Deer but I did think about it long after so I guess that’s what he’s going for!
