Oh, come on, you go to a disaster movie to see a disaster. Who cares about plot, drama, or acting ability, you want to see tidal waves wipe out New York, earthquakes drop las Angeles into the ocean, and comets flatten the earth. But in this movie, all the good stuff, which I thought was what the movie was building up to; is never shown. Instead we just watch the two protagonists holding hands in the bunker while all the good stuff that is supposed to being happing, is never seen. What a let down.

In reply to <a href="https://taylorholmes.com/2020/11/14/what-did-you-think-of-the-movie-greenland/#comment-1090354">Lisa</a>.

No answer to my tweet yet. Yeah... It wasn't a great film over all. But it definitely had some really intriguing, and totally morally objectionable/controversial - conversational aspects to it. Like, who should get selected for the Ark? And if selected, what is your moral responsibility to the rest of the planet? Better yet, WHO IS DIGGING A HOLE IN GREENLAND RIGHT NOW AND NOT TELLING US ABOUT IT?! I mean, if the government really is making a planet killer safety zone, shouldn't they tell us about it, and inform us to build our own in the likely chance of not being selected... like really? Like right now?

No comments yet? Any answer to the Tweet yet? Taylor and I already had a lengthy conversation about this movie a few days ago and we agreed on some points but disagreed on whether those picked to go to Greenland were truly worthy. I mean, the government was choosing people based on their usefulness to a future society where things would have to be rebuilt so I’m not sure if they were truly worthy beyond that. Plus John and family leave their neighbors and their children behind in the beginning simply because they were not chosen. So I found that to be pretty selfish behavior. I’m not saying I wouldn’t do the same thing to protect my family but it still takes away from someone’s worthiness to be in the forefront of starting a new society. Not the greatest film I’ve ever seen but a solid disaster flick to watch in your pjs with some popcorn on the couch on a Sunday! A few plot holes in my opinion like the case of the medication which was so important in the beginning but all but forgotten about in the end. How would they have found the time to stockpile insulin while all this was happening? Also the fact that almost the entire plot happens before they start to drive to Canada and they manage to get there in record time with the planet blowing up around them. Then of course the wristbands which again are all but forgotten in the end when they finally get to the bunker and no one is checking anymore even though the son had already been rejected. So if you can look past this stuff it’s an enjoyable enough film.
