I’ve finished all three Shadow and Bone books – and I’m almost done with the Six of Crows books. The author breaks a lot of the YA standard rules and does the very unpopular, or the more gruesome thing. Which I really dig about the series. Eric basically blended all three series into a single series… so that is why we were following different characters. And I don’t expect the other threads to make sense until their season. So for Season 1, it was all about Alina. Season 2 probably will be Inej and Kaz. etc. ?? Season 2 will probably be about Jurda parem – the grisha drug. Which is actually the point of the fourth and fifth book. Looks like they have compressed seven books into three seasons? We will see.

While I enjoyed it, there were inconsistencies that bugged me, and early on, it bounced around too much between characters we don’t care for yet (unless you’ve read the books, I suppose?). I’m a bit worn out on “origin stories,” so while this did take time off for training and the like, it didn’t completely derail the storyline for it, nor did it linger too long. I can appreciate that. I’ll watch the next season, but if for some reason it doesn’t come, I won’t pine for it.

So, yeah, I’m assuming that Heisserer has a multi-movie deal with Netflix. I asked him on Twitter, but he hasn’t responded yet. We shall see. But it seems like they were worried about the jolt of losing all the old characters from book 3 to all the new characters of book 4, and solved it by melding the two series together. We’ll see.
