So this is an Icelandic revenge movie then!

Ram/Man could have just as easily killed Maria. But he didn't.

In the end he did to her what she did to him. Killed her mate and stole (back) a child. No more no less.

Ram/man was a very wtf moment for me. I actually said it out loud to myself as I was watching the movie alone.

But it's a moment that is both shocking and that explains the entire movie in the span of 5 seconds.

Haha! Hey Lisa!! This movie was definitely worth playing hooky for! I feel like it’s the type of movie I could watch again and still get something new. All I’m asking is….has there ever been an Icelandic comedy….. these movies are DEEP!

When I got the last comment via email I said to myself “someone smart like Erika wrote this comment!” So I had to come look and I was right!

Absolutely. They treated the mother terribly and didn’t even think twice about putting her down even though she was agonizing over the loss of her child! Karma, indeed!

Wow! This movie. So, I read your breakdown of the movie, and I can get your interpretation. It’s clear and concise, but there are are few moments in the movie, where I’m thinking there’s more meat left on the plate. Hmmm… I could be totally off base here, but I’m putting it down anyway.
Okay, here I go…. I look at Ada2 as a metaphor. She is looked at as a gift while her mother is looked at as a burden. We watch as the couple, Maria and Ingvar take the lamb/child and without even thinking or talking consider her as ‘their gift’. We watch as the void to their lives have been filled with Ada2. BUT….. what about the sheep that gives birth to Ada, she’s got a void, but her void is a nuisance. Maria has already justified her void is more important than the mother sheep. She closes the window….she doesn’t want to hear the mother lamb crying for her sheep. The couple take Ada and dress her up in people clothes..talk to her like a human. What about the moment when Ada looks in the mirror, she sees her reflection, she’s different. What about the moment when she’s laying on Ingvar’s chest and she sees the picture of sheep being herded, sheep that look like her. I believe that there has to be a connection here.

I agree in the end karma settles the score, but maybe it’s bigger than just this couple. Maybe the movie is speaking to the ability mankind has to change and reshape the rules as it sees fit at the cost of nature, animals, other people. The ending to me was just a way of nature resetting the balance.

Taylor, you wrote a great review and explanation! I commented on your video version, I believe Maria says it will be okay at the end of the film. Although the ram man was an omg moment, I believe he did the right thing.

I did enjoy this movie. It stirs up a lot of emotions and I had said to you this kind of film could only have worked in a place like Iceland. The dialogue actually takes a back seat in this film and I pretty banal. So much is said without words here and when a movie can do this it instantly has my attention. I also think Papa Ram Man thought that it would inflict more pain to take everyone away from Maria. Killing her would not make her suffer as much as taking Ada and her husband away. But for anyone who thinks this is going to be some kind of horror film, it’s not. It’s very slow and atmospheric in parts but very good. I thought the ending was fitting and deserved.
