Oh the other thing I wanted to mention was that this show tells us how much this family was responsible for shaping how pain was treated. Those signs we all see when we go to the hospital with the pain scale from 1-10! Yep, a marketing tool from Purdue! That’s how sick they were and how much they infiltrated every hospital around the country. They had these doctors convinced they could prescribe a drug that was like 100 times more potent than morphine for a freakin headache! And this drug has affected everyone. I attended support groups when I first came off of it and it’s not a bunch of dirty junkies. It’s people from every demographic and even those who eventually went to heroin often did so because they were cut off by their doctors with no other options. Treatment is still not easy to come by in this country if you live in an underserved area.

This family is evil. Pure evil. I’ve mentioned on Discord that I’m 6 years into recovery off of OxyContin and that it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my entire life. But in order to have a life that didn’t revolve around my next dose of medication, it was something I was determined to do. And I was not on a very high dose. I was shocked to learn there had been a 160mg dosage pill! Anyway, I’m glad I only watched this show as the episodes dropped one a week because it’s extremely hard to get through if you have any kind of history with this drug. Triggers in so many ways. That being said, I urge everyone to watch it because if it just keeps one person from ever going down this rabbit hole, it’s worth it. Kudos to the real life men and women who did not back down on their attempts to hold this family accountable. My situation was much like many who wound up physically addicted to this drug. I was in an accident in 2006 and then a head on collision in 2011. I suffered permanent back and neck injuries. I did PT, I did cortisone but nothing lasted so my doctor put me on a combination of Vicodin during the day and OxyContin at night. When I decided I needed to come off them in 2015 she scribbled the phone number to the local hospital on a post it and sent me on my way. Coming off these drugs I thought I would die. But thankfully I didn’t and I wish I had never agreed to take them as my life was all about when I could take my next dose when I was on them. When you try to come off them the pain receptors the drug covers all start going crazy and put you in awful pain I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. So I implore everyone to watch this show with your teenage children and show them what can happen even by taking this drug at the normal dosage. The performances in this show are all top notch. Michael Keaton, Rosario Dawson and Peter Sarsgard all deserve awards for their performances here!
