As if they knew what was going on. when Ben is killed. the various children go back to what they were doing. Your review is fantastic. And I think children are aware of the hate and evil in the world. and how the family unit is mon existent. I did hate the cat scene and it was disturbing. I wish they hadn’t gone there. but good film.

In the beginning they view the mental powers as only children could, just a little fun skill much like Ida’s hyper mobility when she bends her arms backwards. (Which I can do, btw and it really freaks other people out! Haha) It’s only when Ben starts hurting others that it becomes something more than innocent. The way this film is told completely from the children’s point of view is magnificent. It’s captured perfectly. Usually even when a film is completely about children it’s told from an adult more complex point of view and this film is beautifully simple and even innocent in ways. Even when Ida and Anna band together to ultimately vanquish Ben, you aren’t left with a feeling that they have done something evil or bad. They solved the problem simply as only children could. If adults had been involved they would have tried to help Ben or get him some kind of treatment which we absolutely know would not work and countless more people would have been hurt. Ben is evil. So I would argue that Ida and Anna return innocence back to the playground by eliminating Ben from hurting anyone else. So the “innocents” is about the minds of children. While all of their actions may not be innocent, their way of thinking is. It’s not clouded by years of experience yet. So I think the title of this film is spot on. There’s a sense of dread that I think we can all relate to feeling when we were children about something and didn’t quite understand things as we do now as adults.

This is a fantastic film suggested by Chris over on Discord and it’s going to be very hard to knock from 1st place. I’m absolutely positive that somehow this will be remade as an English language film which ultimately will be inferior to the original so do yourself a favor and watch this one, subtitles and all.
