Nothing really implies it's a post-apocalyptic world, and a vein of gold wouldn't be "free" gold as it's portrayed in the movie. It would be running as a "vein" in another type of rock- most commonly quartz. The gold in this movie is eroded or placer gold(nugget).

I also was surprised at how much I liked this film and glad for Zac Efron finally shedding his pop star image.. love the review here too… hilarious but all true lol

I like to think the sister was getting revenge for her dead sister and probably figured out what man#2 did for greed to man#1. What if man#1 had agreed to drive back for the excavator tho? Was man#2 using reverse psychology in offering to stay w the gold instead? Knowing man#1 would insist on staying w the gold? And I agree… why didn’t they both go together for the excavator since chances are no one else would have the pure luck of finding the gold. But then we wouldn’t have a movie I guess, haha.
So the both girls eaten by the dogs in the end. Horrifying.
Tbh I walked out of Channing Tatum’s ‘Dog’ bc I thought I’d get bummed out by another sad dog movie and went to see ‘Gold’ instead…. Those dog scenes were worse than the movie I walked out of, holy shit did not expect that. Covered my eyes on the dog scenes..

What is this bizarro world where we are praising Zac Efron films? I do not know but he was fantastic in this one. It really doesn’t need much explanation because the story is pretty straightforward but the dirty gritty world that was constructed here was fantastic! Oh and the flies! I feel like they cranked the volume on the flies to enhance the experience of this filthy, hot world we are thrown into. I very much agree that background isn’t important here. Neither is even knowing the characters names. I wondered at the end just how long man number 2 was sitting there watching this all go down and then I definitely chuckled a bit when he got taken down by an arrow. Was it sister number 2 seeking revenge for her dead sister? We are never told but I think that’s ok. This is definitely a film about morality more than knowing very much about the characters, anyway.

Btw, this is a Stan film (Australia)that I believe isn’t actually released on VOD right now but if you come over to Discord we can probably help you out!
