Alright - I just rewatched the back half of the film. I made sure I tracked all the players correctly, especially, who was Bee, and who was Evie... the two key individuals. And I see where I went awry. My apologies all! The write up should make more sense now. Well, the name bits anyway. Who knows if the write up will make any sense at all! hahaha.

Oh my bad. Let me rejig it. Names really are an Achilles heel for me. Should have it sorted in just a minute.

Yeah, about a third of the way through this review you have switched Bee and Evie. It’s a lot to correct, but the analysis doesn’t make much sense the way it currently is written.

I am uncertain how I feel about the end scene of Gabe digging up the corpses. It seems that the necklaces are passed down, so they wouldn’t be buried, but I guess if I can let go of the airtight enclosure I can let this go as well.

It’s an interesting thought that this is just a small snippet of the house’s history. Those bodies have to be decades old. And it seems like Evie hasn’t been affected by the virus (or is also immune), so she would know the cycle. Maybe this Daisy really was the daughter of Bee? Maybe mother wasn’t the first mother? I can’t tell if it opens the world up or just doesn’t make a lot of sense. Regardless, I really enjoyed the film.

You are bit wrong in the above article. Bee doesn't becomes the one eyed queen . It's Evie. Evie summons herself as the one eyed queen. And Evie and the stranger becomes the endgame . You got it all wrong. Besides this , Evie is the protagonist as she was selfless , sacrificed her happiness for her family and she was always right from beginning.
She's the one who concluded the movie and kinda had happy ending with a man who wasn't her brother. They liked each other - stranger and Evie. And it's bee who had an incent relationship with her brother Luca and mistakenly murdered him not Evie (who mentioned it wrong above).

Please rewatch it and try to eliminate the errors. Pardon for correcting you.

Hi Tay, thanks for the reply. if i understand you correctly, Closed Box movies are films shot in one room or small confined space. if that's the case, Blumhouse Films comes to mind. lol.

Hahaha...
I guess it's not? But I make a big deal about closed box movies here on THiNC. I think Hollywood calls them single set movies? Or something like that. But that sort of means a different thing. To me, a closed box movie is a movie that squeezes the confines simply to drive up conflict and allow the cleverly written surprises unfold.

I personally think that closed box movies are great for low budget movie makers - but it requires an amazing grasp of the story and the characters in order to stick the landing. And it really requires breaking the mold - and doing something ingeniously different. If you'd like to see a list of closed box movies I've reviewed here on THiNC. you can find them right here: https://taylorholmes.com/category/closed-box/

But yeah, maybe not a metric? Who knows. I wanted to say, "how well did the movie makers do by using a uniquely small environment to control atmosphere and surprises" but that isn't very concise. So I went with closedboxness. My personal favorite closedbox movie is called Tape. It was filmed in a single hotel room and the reveals just kept coming all movie long. (Not to mention it reunited Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard... and Ethan Hawke and Um Thurman now that I think about it.) Another good closed box example is Hippopotamus. Or Arq. etc etc.

Agree the acting was a bit silly but I enjoyed what this movie meant overall. And of course, the science. There are no bees. They are hand pollinating everything and this just would not produce the bounty of goodies they have on offer. Our food supply would pretty much collapse without bees plus the lack of moving air in the glass house as many plants are pollinated by wind. Take it from this experienced gardener. And the glass house would not be air tight. But again, I still enjoyed this. They are all choosing what to remember and playing their various parts as we come to find out in the end. At first I thought I was watching some kind of disgusting incest but in reality we have no idea how many previous versions are buried in that garden and who is actually related here if any. So if you can view this film for the metaphor it clearly is I think you will enjoy it! I loved the fact that they used the Shred on purpose to make ignorance blissful as that was a different take from previous pandemic movies. I don’t remember who initially recommended it but thank you!
