Thanks Taylor Holmes. I shared your opinion about this great movie and I like the way you explained it. I saw this movie with my 13 years old son and that's gave us the opportunity to discuss many things during and after the movie.

great review and comment. YANG's memories jolted me back to Terrance Malik and his visuals as in TREE OF LIFE.

I did not catch the drunk driver memory! So much to take in and piece together.

I loved your write up but you forgot to mention the cloning. Yang struck up a friendship with Ada because she was a clone of the woman who died. This is where the movie really gets fascinating for me because we are looking back at the memories he saved and what he deemed as important to him. So it’s about life, I think. Human and AI. The parents are basically using Yang for 24/7 child care and when he’s no longer there to do it things go bad for them and they need to figure out how to reconnect as a family again. I also did notice the subtle racism in this film. Even though it’s about a supposed progressive family they still just viewed Yang as the help. But I think they all learn something by the end when they are able to see what was important to him in his life. Also there is the hatred of the neighbors because they have cloned children. There’s just so much going on in this little film to unpack. You probably could write a dissertation on it!

I absolutely adored this film. Yes, it’s sad in parts but I did not find it depressing in the least. This is definitely the current king of the hill for me.
