I think you’re missing the point a bit with your analysis of Vince being found the ‘bad’ guy in supposed contrast to John’s ‘good’ guy. Why is he supposed to be expected to reconfigure his drug-using lifestyle on account of this reckoning with John and Amy? Him and his partydrugs isn’t the crime on trial here. Amy wanting some measure of payback for being a pawn in their manipulative power games? Sure, valid, absolutely—but are you suggesting that using Amy’s trauma as a one-up in your jealousy and competitiveness with your buddy is actually worse than RAPING someone out of jealousy and competitiveness with your buddy? No. John committed a crime against Amy that equals prosecution and jail time for which he owned up and resigned himself to. Good. But Vince’s exploitation of Amy and her trauma history is a more abstract sin that I don’t think quite equals the jail-time for drug possession, on the same level that John’s literal rape warrants.

They’re both very shitty dudes, obviously. But by the limited parameters of how things unfolded I don’t think they were fairly tested/ equally tried for one to be found ‘good’ and one to be found ‘bad’, given their different reactions to imminent imprisonment for the things on their person at that time (drugs vs. rape confession).
