The most shocking parts of this film for me were definitely the parts about the child and how much his mother despised him just for being different. If that isn’t political, I don’t know what is.

And sure, there are some very shocking moments in this film but in no way was it a horror film in my opinion. It’s a commentary on various things in a very in your face way.

Finally, we have evolution. It seems in this film that either all the body tinkering or the fact that the world is one step from a wasteland at this point has evolved some humans to eat and digest toxic waste. Is this good or bad? I think it’s what the movie tries to tackle but doesn’t provide you with a real clear answer. It’s clear that the end scene is proof that there is now evolution of the body without interference to this new state. I liked that it ended there kind of open ended.

I did not love this film yet I could not turn away. I definitely would not watch it again, though!
