HEY ERIKA!!!
Great to hear from you again! That is the saddest thing ever. Gotta say, not gonna lie. Truly the saddest. Your story coupled with this movie? Epic level sadness. Gah.

But there is a lot of wisdom in your years of experience. The grace, and acceptance, and love that you have learned to give in spite of your knee jerk reaction, that is pretty amazing. It isn't our first go to though is it? We just want to say, suck it up, and figure it out. Just like... STOP.

At my office space, we do happy hour once a week, and this last week, everyone there was laughing about seeing me drunk. And I was like, I have no idea what I'd be like drunk. I've never been... this drink in my hand will always be my last. Or at most, two beers. But that is because I know what an addictive personality I have. I take everything too far. And getting drunk would end up with me being strung out on ketamine in a ditch somewhere a week later. It wouldn't be subtle. So I have zero condemnation for those of us that have a tough time with it. I get it, though I don't specifically get it... if you know what I mean.

Yeah, this is a really really deeply profound, and heartbreaking movie. I will be forever changed by this one.

Taylor!!! What?! You have just now seen Beautiful Boy? Naw, I don't blame you, because, it is a difficult movie that EVERY parent should watch. This along with nice doses of therapy....
I have shared with you and Lisa (Hi girl! I miss you!), how my oldest child's life was uprooted, by a car accident upon which substance abuse and mental health issues, followed shortly after. The movie came out about the same time, and my husband and I cried like babies watching it. It was so difficult that I don't think I can watch it again. After seeing the movie, I heard the NPR Fresh Air interview with David Sheff and his son. The interview was honest and raw, and I appreciated the frankness from them both. I picked up Sheff's book 'Clean' and it, along with therapy (lots and lots) has helped in understanding and never losing hope that my addicted loved ones are still people, people who are hurting and hurt out of their pain. Addiction is a disease and many times a symptom of many other unresolved issues in a person's life. It's easy to look at other people's children and judge their upbringing and who raised them. That was me a cool twenty years ago, yep I was full of it.... (Taylor I know you don't like curse words!) Parents can try to do all the right things, but that doesn't protect their child from life.

I’ve wondered myself over the years why schools thought we would be protected from anything under our desks or filed into the hallway with our arms over our heads against the wall. We didn’t do earthquake drills here in NY but rather nuclear holocaust drills as the Cold War was still raging back in the early 80s. But you know this as we are around the same age.

Anywho….. I watched this one some years back when it came out and what a heartbreaker! TC is amazing but we have to give Steve some credit as well. He does drama well considering his comedic roots. I’m currently giggling picturing you running your fingers through TC’s hair and whispering sweet nothings in his ear about your love of his acting.

You definitely have to be in the right frame of mind to watch this film as it’s not a very happy one but it’s most definitely worth the watch!
