Great write up. You went exactly where I went when I was watching this film. “When I Consume You” actually says it all to me. This film is about the demons we carry with us. Not the ones with glowing eyes but rather the ones life hands us. As a person who was addicted to Oxy after a doctor left me on it for years and years, I could definitely relate. I also grew up in a household where addiction was present so it was already kind of in the cards for me although I’m not really a person that likes to live in or blame the past for everything. But it did make me think. I feel like this film is about Wilson grappling for answers and trying to fight off his own demons after Daphne’s death. He is unwilling to accept the obvious in the beginning and we are watching his grief after she dies. It’s clear they both had serious mental health issues and probably severe PTSD from how they were raised.

I think I mentioned on Discord that this is not a horror film. Yes, it has some violent elements but it’s really much more than that. And after reading this write up and connecting it to the interview you did I can understand this film much more clearly now. There are definite elements of his own experiences here. I feel that about his other films as well. It’s very personal for him.

Again, excellent write up. One of your best!
