I’m fascinated by the fact that they created such a great looking film on such a low budget and that the story was good as well. I’m not always one for movies with strong messages but since I’m an avid gardener, I definitely liked this one. It’s an interesting world, the world of seeds. Most people do not even know that when you buy a pack of seeds in the store it’s likely they have been altered in some way. So I tend to look for open pollinated or heirloom seeds and try to be vigilant about where I source mine from. Of course once I grow them I then have them for life as I can collect my own and then share them as I see fit avoiding the GMO seeds often sold in the trade. So I guess I’m like Vesper, haha. I could go on and on but it’s harder and harder to source seeds that haven’t been manipulated with in some way and it’s harder for the smaller farms that do sell untainted seeds to stay In business because of the monopoly companies getting all sorts of crazy laws passed regarding this. It’s a crazy world if you really delve into it. Burpee for instance (the most likely place you’ll be buying seeds from if you buy them off the rack) is the biggest offender. I believe they are also affiliated with Monsanto, the maker of around Up. So while this film supposedly takes place in some kind of future, much of it is relevant right now. Makers of large budget sci fi movies should take notice that you can have a good story and a good looking film without spending a billion dollars on it! So I’m really partial to these indie films that get it right and the actors that choose to participate in them even though they probably aren’t getting a huge paycheck from them.
