I kinda think you missed the point of this film. First, I despise Pete Davidson so I almost didn’t watch this because of him but I’m glad I changed my mind. The whole point of Lee being in the film was to have an older guy who is out of touch with this younger generation so I feel he was cast well. Remember when he tries to give them all a talk before he heads to bed early?-Like us old people do- go to bed early. It completely goes over their heads and they are pretty much like “Ok, Boomer!” (A phrase my 13 year old loves) So the over the top lingo about triggers and ableism is completely on purpose. I’m not sure who wrote this film but I’m betting it was a Gen Xer. Because this whole movie is pretty much a takedown of the younger generation using every stereotype in the book to make them seem completely vapid and more concerned about how they are portrayed rather than how they actually are. I mean a whole big thing is made over a group chat. The complete overuse of certain phrases that make us old folks roll our eyes is totally on purpose. And the reveal where our so called murdered guy actually cut his own throat to try to prove he could do a ridiculous trick and catch it on video just to get likes? That’s a skewer of our younger generation-pun intended.

But I honestly couldn’t figure out who the target audience was supposed to be because of this. Is it us older folks who don’t quite understand the lingo or is it meant for the Gen Y and Z kids? Either way, I enjoyed it and would recommend it for a laugh and an eye roll.

everyone besides lee pace is in their mid to late 20s so i don't know why you think pete davidson is out of place! and lee's entire role was playing an older outsider so that's why he was there. i thought the casting was great and this horror comedy was amazing!! it subverted expectations which i always love to see.

at some point my roommate and i were just like ok is this just going to be a basic horror comedy or is it going to do something different and that's when we decided the initial death wasn't a murder. we didn't figure out the details of course but we did guess the general ending and i still absolutely love this movie a lot! the idea of like maybe we should stop making assumptions about people with such limited information is a great message!

while watching, i was wondering if the dialogue would go over gen x and boomers' heads but i think it depends on how in tune they are with the current cultural zeitgeist. for example, you not knowing that ableism can apply to any disorder not just physical ailments. but most importantly, the dialogue was really funny if it wasn't clear to you (alice saying, "i have body dysmorphia" might've been the funniest line). these were stereotypical cringe people (with good intentions!) but needed to just calm down!! great movie i'm glad you watched it!
