I was also thinking about the other end of the spectrum where anyone now with an iPhone can pretty much fancy themselves as filmmakers. Or maybe not an iPhone but you catch my drift. Some of these super low budget films actually turn out great. I’m specifically thinking of films like “The History of Time Travel” which I believe was a college student project of some sort but it’s amazingly clever! I’ll take a film like this any day over one with a bloated budget for effects but lacking in plot. There are so many different ways a film can be great and it isn’t always measured by the amount of awards it receives or even a place on some “best of” list. I mean the Top Gun sequel was nominated for awards and was just not a good film so you can’t count on this as a barometer all of the time.

But I’m glad watching (or rewatching) these films has made you think and appreciate the art of filmmaking even more! Just maybe not shag carpets….
