Before I read this I was posting a spoiler on discord which was basically a combination of theory 3 and 4. These 2 are messed up. She obviously has a very severe way of ending her relationships (bad men should be left, not necessarily killed!) and she is stringing along the detective for fun I guess until she’s not. And it’s at this point she falls for him and leaves him with an impossible case to solve. He will have her photos up on the wall and continue being an insomniac which is pretty messed up if you think about it. If she can’t have him in life she will force him to forever think about her death. With his wife gone off with her friend he will now just be alone to obsess over his cases. Even his wife mentions he isn’t happy unless trying to solve a violent crime before she’s had enough and takes off.

Like you said it’s hard to get some of the dialogue in this film when you are reading subtitles which do not convey the broken Korean and the bit of humor between them due to this. But it’s still a good film that is definitely worth a watch.
