In relation to the demon possession idea, does the rabbit transport Alice's spirit? Is this why the rabbit bites Sarah so viciously when Sarah tries to drop it over the fence?

And how about the symbolism of Sarah's festering wound from the rabbit/Alice?

I also saw the butt-naked man at the end and thought I must have misinterpreted what I saw. I knew it was a man but thought I was misinterpreting a different body part as a naked bottom. Thank you for the comments confirming it was not "just me" that saw this.

As far as the psychosis idea, it had not occurred to me that Sarah had earlier that morning pushed Mia off the edge (it was weird earlier in the film when Sarah showed Mia the ledge, so that could have been foreshadowing). Is there a "butt-naked" man in the room because Sarah is trying to make another baby? A replacement for Mia? Isn't Sarah's profession all about trying to give children to mothers, as atonement for having taken away a child from her own mother?

Thank you, all, for being here to explore this fascinating story.

I noticed the man face down in the bead, Sarah looks at him before leaving the room. I am curious as to why no one mentions him in any of the reviews I have read.

I did not notice the man! I’ll have to rewatch the ending. Was it her ex? Because he shows up toward the end and then just sort of disappears which I found strange because if I found my kid in that house I would have removed her immediately! That was really the only part that didn’t make a lot of sense to me. But the way I read this film is that the arrival of the rabbit tipped Sarah over the edge. She was reminded of her sister and forced to confront what she did after packing it away for so many years. Seeing her mom definitely didn’t help the situation. Do you think her parents ultimately figured out what she did? I wondered if her father actually knew. It seemed Joan had an idea. So I don’t believe there was any type of reincarnation happening here. I think Sarah was just declining rapidly after being forced by circumstances to confront what she did.

What about the last thing they say to each other, Mia/Alice says “You’re a monster” Sarah “I’m your monster” Then it appears Mia/reincarnated Alice laid awake all night & decided to complete the karmic cycle at the end. But did anyone else notice the butt naked man face down in the second bed, in the last bedroom scene when Sarah runs out??
