So since I haven’t finished the book I have a question- does the book end in the same place as the show? If so then I agree that no S2 should be done unless the actual author is writing it. I can see this happening as he is the narrator of the show so he’s obviously on board with the adaptation of the book. No matter who is penning another season I can’t see this having a very happy ending as the whole thing is so very dark. Much like the OG version of a Grimm’s fairy tale.

The other thing I didn’t really understand was the 3 wishes. What does this have to do with the evil fairies stealing Brian? Is this part of the same fairy tale?

Man, you could probably have 10 people write dissertations on this show/book and come up with 10 completely different explanations for it! If I was writing it I would definitely lean into the postpartum aspect of it. I’m quite surprised that a man wrote this book and managed to capture the resentment a woman can feel after becoming a mother. We become small. We become vessels simply here to care for this extension of ourselves and it’s easy to fall into a depression from the lack of sleep and people telling us how happy we should be. Granted this show dials it up to 100 but it can be very frustrating to feel this way. Plus our hormones are crashing all over the place and we are told by doctors pretty much just to suck it up. I’m sure there are women out there who would admonish me for comments like this but postpartum depression is a very real illness for some. Especially being stuck at home feeling like everyone else out there has it together and is living their lives. Apollo is just not getting it at all and keeps brushing off her concerns. As a woman I could very much relate to this. I actually got very sick after I had my son and I almost died because the hospital did not take my concerns seriously. I wound up hospitalized multiple times for the first 2 months of my son’s life and it was hard. I wanted so badly to be with him but I was unable to do so until my health got better. Compounded with crashing hormones it was a bad, bad time.

So even though I’m still thoroughly confused as to what the heck this show was really about I could definitely relate to some aspects of it. I’ll finish the book and see if I can gain some more clarity on it.

Just a correction because I could not make heads or tails of this show, honestly. He is not going to Central Park. He’s going to the forest as in Forest Hills which is a ritzy area of Queens. At least in the show. I still have to get back to the book. I’ll forgive you this faux pas as it’s a NYC geography thing. The weird fairy tale book speaks of the babies being brought to the forest and there’s really no forest in NYC to speak of so it must mean this area. Maybe there is another dual reality in Forest Hills like on the island? I know at least that is where Emma was heading. I don’t recall if Apollo came to the same reasoning as she did to try and get the actual Brian back.
