I’ve been thinking a lot about this film lately so it’s interesting it came up on the list right now. It also happens to be one of my most favorite films of all time. Depending on the day you ask it even might be the top of that list.

I actually saw this film in the theater in the city with my aunt who recently passed away which is why I’ve been thinking about it as part of my memories with her. I don’t remember exactly how we came to go to the movies that day we spent together, I just know that we did and we both walked out of that theater absolutely blown away. Like we couldn’t stop talking about it blown away.

You absolutely knew walking out of this film that Matt Damon was destined for stardom. Granted, we got a million and one films starring him after this but many of them were good or even great. He still remains one of my favorite actors of all time. Robin Williams puts in one of the best performances of his career which was sadly cut short by his demons-miss this guy immensely. It is a film that gives you all the feels from one end of the spectrum to the other.

There’s an interesting anecdote that Terrence Malick actually influenced the ending of this film which is funny because I generally do not care for his films at all. But his input actually changed it for the better. In the original ending Will and his girlfriend leave together and Terrence said it should end with Will following her which of course gave us the classic line of going to “see about a girl.”

So yeah. Love this one.
