It’s funny you mention Three Amigos. I was literally just reading a review of this film a few minutes ago that compares it to that. I’ll have to see if I can find the link again.

I’m not a Star Wars junkie so I watched this film without all of that clouding my vision and thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was. I wasn’t expecting much considering all the negative reviews but it was visually beautiful and definitely has heart. I also was wondering why Kai would all of a sudden turn good guy after being out for himself for so long so I wasn’t surprised he turned out to be a Judas. I think how Gunnar freed everyone was a bit lame but I’ll let it pass. How would a simple farmer know how to unlock the thing? I dunno…

Since this is a double feature I figured that somehow the bad guy was going to make it through. At least we only have a few short months to wait to find out how it all ends. Apparently there is also a director’s cut to be released somewhere in between.

You know some of the reviews had a bit of a bone to pick with character development and the pacing of the film as there is a lot of time spent on picking up the rag tag group but not much time spent really on the individual characters and why they are fighting for this cause. It did feel a bit rushed but as this is a film and not a tv show with more time to spare on such indulgences I guess I understand.

Overall the story itself is not new. Good versus evil. That’s pretty much it. Good popcorn entertainment in my opinion.
