Napoleon was an angry little dude and I agree, the movie made me hate him even more. If anyone should be lost to time it should be that guy. Yet he has persistent fans! He certainly wasn’t any better than Marie and her cohorts, in my opinion!

I also never heard of this guy and I’m a big fan of classical music and opera. I have seen many productions at The Met and the NYC opera.

(As an aside, S2 of The Guilded Age revolves around how the Metropolitan Opera came to be in NYC although I have not looked into if it is historically accurate or not- either way, it’s a fun watch and a great show)

I enjoyed this film even though it’s full of inaccuracies which is probably because they buried the fact that this guy even existed. Shame on France for that. I also had read that his relationship with Marie was actually downplayed in the film and they were supposedly much closer in real life which I guess was problematic at the time because of racism. Supposedly he also lived in a house where Mozart resided at the same time so it is likely they knew each other in some capacity.

This film is no Amadeus but it’s definitely worth a viewing.
