No I dig it Matt. That's what's great about so many of these movies - they work on multiple levels. Definitely. I see that there in the film totally. And actually quite like that vantage. The bricks, the darkness, her past, and the dopplegangers. Yeah.

So little of this movie makes sense cognitively. I mean, a spreading brick virus? And because of that, I'd argue you might be more on point actually.

I went for a metaphor take on this one. Everyone is pushing to keep things hidden (provenance, secrets, bad behavior, the bricks). She is trying to talk about things (podcast, her past, the previous interview). For me the idea is something along the lines of “holding your secrets in vs. trying to talk and fix them”. Hence the regurgitation (expelling the thing you’re holding inside).

If I follow this then my read is she beats her doppleganger (the old her who was hiding out, who harmed FK and her daughter, who was willing to keep her family's secrets), and then the next episode will be about the truth - that darkness only lives in silence.

Even writing it out though, it feels a little stretched - but I think there’s more here than just an alien invasion. Otherwise, just give everyone the bricks/dooplegangers.

This film reminded me a little bit of No One Will Save You that we watched recently. Only because both films concern an alien takeover involving doppelgängers and women recovering from trauma otherwise they weren’t really alike. But if there’s a sub genre of “Alien takeovers/women with PTSD” then both could probably fit there!

I was on the fence as to whether this was really happening or she was just losing it but I think I’m leaning towards it really happening. The bricks were probably specifically coded to affect the person they were sent to. I wasn’t clear on who exactly sent her the initial email because the housekeeper acted like she didn’t know what she was contacting her about so I’m not sure that is correct in your write up but it could have been anyone just trying to get some kind of platform to share the bricks by word of mouth I guess.

Fun little closed box film.
