Taylor, happy to have dialog. Yes, I loved A Dark Song as well. I’ve recommended Undertone to fellow friends that are also into horrors. I understand that the music is a large part of this movie so I take that into account.

Obviously Hereditary, Midsommar, The Witch, Ex Machina (I consider sci fi horror) were excellent. It Comes at Night I felt was a let down.

Let me know what you think about Bring Her Back

First, I have to jump straight to this question: "Did I enjoy A Dark Song??"
hahah: https://taylorholmes.com/2019/08/31/a-detailed-walkthrough-of-the-movie-dark-song/ - I enjoyed it so much I went and found Liam Gavin and chatted with him about his movie: https://taylorholmes.com/2021/08/10/interview-with-a-dark-song-creator-liam-gavin/

Yeah, your bead on Undertone is spot on. It's totally a super slow burn. Which I love (as illustrated by my joy for the movie A Dark Song). So sure, if slow unfoldings aren't your thing, I get it. But I really felt the unease of it slowly creeping through the theater over time and with evil intent. But I know we are all different, and I get it. But also, if you couldn't hear everything clearly, then yeah, that would be rough. This movie requires the audio to carry so much of this movie...

I'm going to go track down Bring Her Back tonight. Thanks for the tip.

As far as A24 goes, for me, they WERE 100%... not anymore. But you can't hit a homerun every time, that isn't a thing. But dude, they are bringing out out Backrooms, and that is my most anticipated movie of the year right now. Like a real world House of Leaves, if you've read that book. But I despised Marty Supreme (which is weird because I adore Timothée). Hated it. So yeah. A24 isn't a slam dunk any more.

Ok sure.

The vibe of the movie was creepy from start to finish. You had a young woman, alone, taking care of her invalid mother, who is on her death bed. You so feel something is just not right. The sounds (that I could hear) set the scenes as a foreshadowing of something slightly sinister and that builds up slowly until it ramps up in the last act.

The visuals with the crayon artwork, the religious symbols and Evy’s slight pauses and reluctance of taking care of mom, alone, seemed to me coming from guilt.

I do think there is supernatural involved and it causes mental lapses with Evy. In my opinion I believe the shift of the movie happens after the 8th audio playback. In that week before the 9th and 10th listening segment, I think Evy cracks. Her mother passes away, the entity gets into the house fully. That’s when things get confusing.
I think that’s when she destroys the house and draws countless crayon pics of the demon.
Evy gets attacked or attacks herself via the demon because she is pregnant. And that’s how the movie ends.

This movie had such a slow burn build up in a way that A Dark Song did.
If you haven’t seen that snd you enjoy religious horror and slow burn, that’s for you.

I enjoyed Bring Her Back more then Talk To Me. If that helps.

A24 is a gamble. It promotes “artsy edgy” takes. It’s a hit or miss for me

More than half? Ugh. I probably have a totally different interpretation of the movie than most. Hahaha

I streamed it. Wanted to make sure i was able to get a good version of captioning.

Louder isn’t always clearer. I was so looking forward to the movie too. Hyped up.

Lots of times I am able to jigsaw pieces of movies together to get a good grasp on what’s going on and what I am missing.

Last movie that had me go back and rewatch just to figure out what’s what was Bring Her Back.

Um. Interesting question.

Did you watch in a theater or at home? It might not translate to home theaters? I watched in a big theater with big sound and it was amazing.

60%?? The sound is like everything.

Hey! I just finished watching this movie. Im undecided about it. Understand that i am severely hearing impaired and rely on closed captioning. How much of this movie did I really miss out on? Don
