Yes, it would have been disjointed, but logically perfect. Whereas landing 30 minutes before the event horizon is just painfully convenient. No? Maybe I'm off base here.

I think the old west ending would be totally disjointed from the rest of the movie. It would go along the lines of Back to the Future. I thought the movie, as a whole, was pretty good. And I was shocked that they killed the dad. When the allosaurus let him go, I thought someone was going to save the day. And then I noticed his lack of lower leg. Gulp.

Isn't it that they didnt grow and change, thier final act was the greatest move of selfishness. Instead of going round the loop and saving the town with what they know, they saved JUST HIM from thier family, and 1 or 2 neighbours! leaving literally her own kids out there to die horrific deaths for her own gratification, with time to save them, she didnt want to deal with that crap. Imagine having the dupe Jeanette turn up at every BBQ knowing each time you sacrificed your own dupe kids, even though you could have gone back with her and saved them.

Not to mention the Dupe Jeanette as a seeming live-in girlfriend for audrey at the end, this family is f****d up, even at a scratch under the surface. Even the boy has broken someones arm and doesnt seem at all bothered except for his personal repurcussions.

I mean I loved it, and though the western end would be downbeat planet of the apes type stuff, this ending is downright diabolical!

Timothy - agreed - that is a dark ending. Just have to sit and think about the people in that neighborhood lost to time, dinosaur fodder... and the duplicates running around as a result. That's definitely on F'd up ending.

The ending is still pretty dark, it just doesn't hit most people until a few minutes after the credit rolls as they think of the implications of that second Janette and the fact that means that there's another Denise and kids stuck in the past without their dad.
