I believe the brothers escape the Camp Arcadia loop, but are in a loop of their own. Look at the position of the telephone poles at the beginning of the film. They are to the right of the road, opposite the roadside memorial. At the end, when the brothers break the barrier, we see the poles on the opposite side, the left, so it appears they are indeed driving away from the camp. But they stop, and when they resume driving, the poles are again, on the right as shown when the brothers were travelling to Camp Arcadia. The brothers are once again driving towards the camp.

The three moons represent the progress of a cycle. When the third moon is full then a reset of the current cycle is imminent. The nature of your imprisonment in a time pod seems to depend on your attitude to the monster. For example, the nightmarish loops of shitty carl and mike and chris originate with their resistance to the creature , while the camp are more accepting, and benefit from a long, pleasant loop where they learn new skills, grow as people, etc. I suspect that the brothers are already--at the start of the movie--in their own time loop. When Aaron receives two phone messages from Justin some while apart, both messages show the same time stamp ( 10:27 .am ), which indicates that time is not running normally. There's also the entity in the sky watching them in the park. And Justin doesn't eat or drink ( only one time ) . At the ending it appears that the brothers have escaped the camp, but the screen suddenly goes dark after they crash into the boundary ( is this the actual reset of the camp loop ? ) before the boys reappear. But then we see a single moon ( the beginning of a new cycle ) over the mountains. Also the birds are still there. The birds indicate the presence of a loop, as animals also cannot escape the cycle, as we saw the trapped snake and mountain lion earlier. If Justin and Aaron are indeed in a personal loop , I'm not sure how it connects to that of the camp, unless they are in one immense cycle which connects both

Someone commented on here about kachinas. I looked it up. They are Indian spirits from the Hopis (the Indian totem pole). They were in Arizona in a place that was later settled a railroad in the late 1800s. The town that grew there was Casa Grande. There was fires there that destroyed the buildings in 1886 and 1893. It then grew to be an agricultural farming community in 1915 (the cult) Then was a relocation camp for Japanese Americans in 1942-1945 (the Japanese dragon). There was a famous baseball player there at that time ( the baseball). During the cold war a company called Corona Satellite Calibration targets (the the people shooting arrows at targets also Chris talking about satellites in Resolution). Also the San Francisco Giants had spring training there. So I believe this is the area they are at in the films.

Haven't heard Sheri? The third movie is called Synchronic - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9016974/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_2 - I've literally been begging Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead for early access to the film. But alas. No luck. But apparently the official release date is the 23rd of this month? So we'll see soon. Maybe you are right? We'll just have to see where Synchronic goes, and if it resolves the questions we all have from the previous two.

From what I understand the movies are TECHNICALLY the movies as they are being written. The entity is the writer and the pods are all of the subplots going on, as each pod needs a beginning middle and end. I'm almost sure that there will be a third movie and there will a larger all encompassing pod tying everything together. I think the brothers link it all together somehow. I also think that the brothers are Michael's sons and the lady looking for her husband is Michael's wife

I think the entire movie can easily be summed up to one of the brothers had died, the "lead" brother, the survivor didn't understand how to cope since he was young at the time of it happening, their was small mention of "what happened to his brother" what happened you may ask? A cat mauled and killed him after he was putting dissension in the group. This may sound baseless, but we see how in the beginning the brother buys a camera to play a tape he had been delivered. Later on we see that same camera again used to play a tape in front of everyone, what does this suggest? Why the exact camera? "They could have brought it from home" That's to easy an answer, what I believe happened, with many small hints strewn throughout the movie including that woman's depiction of her "BOYFRIEND" as a crazed gun nut. Had she come to her senses and drawn the actual him? Or when they were young, they heard about the crazy druggie with guns not too far away and this is what Aaron as a child thought it up as, thats right what I'm suggesting is that it was a cult, and they had done some pretty heinous things such as giving kids drugs and having them have sex, we see a moment whereas Aaron says he slept with whatsherface, and Justin says you mean sex? Nay literally sleeping together, no concept of intercourse, as a child this would be normal. So he either had the sex and repressed it and had no real explanation to give it at the time, or truly the cult didn't subject him to the same treatment as his brother. Also Aaron's camera probably symbolizes his desire to have complete control over the situation, because as we all have forced down our throats everyday, if you have a camera, reality can be what you want, so why not rewrite your horrible memory? Why not do the "big escape" with your best bro, an ending you can be truly happy about. Rewatch the movie with the idea that Justin is simply the closest thing that Aaron had for a guardian, you'll notice plenty of things, for example "the struggle" that Justin failed so quickly? How did Aaron accomplish it? He wraps the rope around him something akin to a slave, pulling the plot forward, which he needs to do in order to get through his past ordeal. Nobody is there, just his scattered memories of the situation that was presented to him at the time. Let's face it the "commune" became toast the moment it was called a UFO deathcult in public, nobody would buy beer from them so eventually they would cease to exist. I believe he got out of the viscous cycle, that was the upbringing in this group, then once the fame associated with his tragedy faded, he became completely miserable as reality set in, this movie's jumble of "time" isn't time, its memories, they fade with time unless maintained by those around, Byron? Aaron never heard of him so he wasn't there. Also doesn't it feel like everyone's being given stage direction as part of their lines? Remember the biker dude who had requested a pistol to off himself in a different way? How boring would it be for us the audience to watch a man dangle again and again? Nah lets spice it up with a good ole gunshot to the head, but not before firing shots off into the woods, then making a subtle bow and going out. But guess what, that new scenario was slightly more interesting, boop, he's back. Every character in this movie is just that. A character, everyone is weird, because the brother had slid the glasses on his brother before his death. Those glasses being the reality of their situation. Call me stupid and disregard this

I'm still trying to figure out this movie and I'd like to point something out that nobody seems to have mentioned which I believe provides clues: "The House of the Rising sun" song. The lyrics of this song are about a child conflicted by the thought of being trapped in a mundane life in New Orleans doomed to repeat the life if his parents. The song also has the line "My mother was a tailor". I believe the women that Aaron "slept with" was actually their mother, which would explain everything about their weird chemistry. I suspect other significance to the inclusion of that song, and that is probably was a source of inspiration to the plot as a whole. It seems less likely that the writer would make the connection to the song and then decide to include it, rather than it being the original inspiration.
