having dogs chase you down and treated like criminals by law enforcement then further probing into these peoples lives forcing bullshit tests to determine that the girl isnt being abused and the father isnt ? doesnt feel like caring loving community to me. the guy who is allowing them to stay in his property is getting a hard working man to work for him to compensate him yeah some deal. the only nice folks were the ones living in the woods where there was true help given and not expecting a life story but the truth is, that girl being a minor could not stay in that setting unless she went through the system to get that status. i dont think it was heart breaking and the girl already had ideas leading to them getting caught in the first place. doesnt mean she didnt still love her dad who by the way was giving her a better education without the whole social thing that can be awful.

In my mind, Tom is leaving the bag for HER dad at the end, which is why she does the tongue cluck thing…the scene is so tiny, I think most people missed it.

I was taken by surprise by the movie,it went in a totally different direction,in a good way,I liked the bond between the dad and his little girl,the love and respect between them,the dad trying his best to taise her to his best.
I didn t get emotional or anything,but it was an unexpectedly good movie,I would ve liked to see some fighting and action, but all in all an 8 out of 10.

In reply to Kay. But I took to the idea of the movie (atleast in the first half with the social workers) in being that we are all forced to play the part of living in society. It is not an option, and there is no escape. Laws and regulations have forced our hand. You have to work, you have to pay for possessions even after you own them in the form of taxes, and if you don't you are a criminal. There is no way to separate yourself from society. If you own land you must still pay taxes on that land, if you do not own land there is no place where you can go that is not owned by someone. Death and taxes.

Beautiful Sad Nostalgic Grief Lorn family oriented Movie
A father daughter where the dad is suffering PTS & the daughter is the adult in the end
A movie full of compassion & empathy & second, third & fourth chances….
A movie that honors a father daughters devotion to each other yet helps people see that nature is meant to be shared & children must leave parents & mage a life of their own

Thanks for the synopsis. I thought the movie was very powerful and at times I had trouble watching it. It made me very uncomfortable, hungry and thirsty.

But after I watched almost the whole movie I missed the emotional payoff with the scene with the sack on the tree and what I think was their tell-tale clucking “I Love You” sound. Shucks.

But do you have any thoughts on the imagery of the spider webs? In the beginning, there is a shot of two, side-by-side, and at the end there is only one? Is this to say the father is the one caught in his own web or is it the daughter?
