It lay dormant for billions of years until activated by oxygen (the bottles water grew by taking water from the air around it). Many things were suggested in the ending. Who encapsulated the alien water and buried it? Why would Mars water explode out at the same time as this capsule? They are connected how, aliens? The expanding ‘water’ will cover the Earth and nuclear waste will mix in and kill everything. The Earth and Mars will both be covered with this alien liquid that has living organisms in it (the sample mold) to take over the 2 planets? Lots to think about.

Maybe America will make a version of this series and continue it? It would be fun to see where the Earth’s evolution would go with new species living in expanding liquid form. Also: If this liquid expands so fast perhaps it would be able to survive in various planet atmospheres, after all it was sealed in a capsule yet had living organisms in it. I’m not sure why the whole magnetic wall detail at the beginning that was there and then disappeared fits into the story of liquid.

A something that causes the liquid to replicate, even the liquid on Mars. Something that couldn’t do this while sealed inside the egg.

Going with this assumption, a continuation of the series could go several ways.

Cosmic horror: the “something” is a powerful, possibly malevolent being, flooding planets for some reason. Maybe to create a suitable environment.

Science fiction: the “something” is a relic from an earlier civilization or alien race, possibly used for terraforming.

The assumption could be completely off and sonething entirely different is happening.

As far as I’m concerned, the story can be over, though I will watch another season. The conclusion seems like a “some things should be left alone, don’t mess with dangerous forces, human curiosity can lead to disasters” cautionary tale. The backdrop of a nuclear waste site and the attempted bombing are an obvious, more mundane analogy of what happens with the egg. Nuclear waste can only be dealt with by sealing it away, just like what’s inside the egg.
