I definitely would have preferred Brit in the lead. I do think the movie is worth discussing. I watched Map of Tiny Perfect Things yesterday which was very sweet. A good one for the entire family.

Bliss was amazing. The ending, perfect. I thought Owen Wilson played his troubled, drug-addicted character really well and Selma Hayek's unrestrained performance was a joy. I didn't find them pretentious or annoying; I thought they were earnest and moving. I do wonder, though, how it would have turned out if Brit Marling played Selma's character, given that she's played the lead in the two previous Cahill movies. I think Selma's character would have been a perfect role for her too.

There are so many strong themes in the movie, the overarching ones being love and how we connect to each other. The unbreakable love between a father and a daughter, the connections between strangers, subjectivity of reality, the choices we make, the allure of succumbing to people or things as an escape from facing our truths.

It's whimsical and eccentric but also cerebral. Like a weird cross between a Wes Anderson and a Christopher Nolan movie.

Hey now! I didn’t recommend Bliss. I said the main characters were highly annoying and listening to them sounded like nails on a chalkboard so I’m not taking any flack for that! I do, however think the end was interesting and is worth discussing. Had this film starred people with less annoying voices I might have enjoyed it more. I mentioned the Midnight Sky when it first came out and you and Chris pretty much ignored me. I loved it! The ending was so bittersweet! So much like Await Further Instructions you should take all my recommendations as gold! Just kidding! Maybe...am I?
