Prometheus and Alien Intercut Into Epic Conglomeration
I think I’m in the minority when I say that I really enjoyed Prometheus. There were enough homages to the Alien universe to occasionally give me goosebumps the further along we traveled. To see the beginning of the process of the alien’s creation and the processes carried out all over again in a new world was fun. But for some it really didn’t connect back to the original as well as it should have.
Enter Rob Willins, who has created a super cut of the original Alien movie as well as Prometheus. They both run together, completely intertwined and overlapping as they unfurl uniformly and perfectly. It’s a bit of a head trip to even really watch it happen.
“‘Derelict’ is an editing project for academic purposes. ‘Prometheus’ wasn’t exactly an Alien prequel, but this treats it as such by intercutting the events of Alien with Prometheus in a dual narrative structure. The goal was to assemble the material to emphasize the strengths of Prometheus as well as its ties to Alien.
“‘Derelict’ is in black & white to better marry the visual quality of the two originals (and also because both films look great in black & white). Roughly 30 minutes has been cut from Prometheus and about an hour of Alien has been used in its place. Some content from the deleted scenes of Prometheus was also used.”
I personally don’t think the movie will stay up much longer seeing as though its totally and completely a pirate of both movies. Sure, its for “academic purposes” but I can’t imagine that 20th Century Fox will put up with it much longer. But I enjoyed watching the movies played together and hopefully it will stay online for everyone who wants to see it. Regardless, here is the movie for as long as it stays online…
